Along with home ownership unfortunately come home repairs. You might consider a home warranty to help with those unexpected fixes.
On an existing home, a home warranty usually costs a few hundred dollars.
In return, you’ll get help paying for major repairs on certain household items like heat, air, appliances or plumbing.
So, something breaks? The homeowner usually has to pay the first $100 themselves. But covered repairs above that are paid for.
Now, there is a downside. Usually, the home warranty company gets to decide who does the repair—not you. And, they only promise to get the covered item working. So they might decide to fix that old refrigerator instead of replacing it.
But if you know you have, say, an air conditioner on its last legs, a home warranty might save you some cash.
