Don’t Get Frightened by Credit Union Myths

October 10, 2025

By Jenn Scinto

As the weather cools down, and the leaves start to fall, October is the perfect time to cozy up with a pumpkin spice latte and swap scary stories. While ghost tales can be fun, there’s one type of myth you shouldn’t fall for: those haunting old rumors about credit unions.

At Logix, we want to clear away the cobwebs and reveal the truth: when it comes to your financial wellness, credit unions are all treats and no tricks.

Trick #1: “Credit Unions Are Just Like Traditional Banks”

Treat: Credit unions offer the same financial products and services as banks, including checking and savings accountscredit cardsauto loans, and home loans

But here’s the difference: big banks are driven by shareholder profit, while credit unions are member-owned and not-for-profit.  That means instead of sending profits to shareholders, Logix reinvests them into you, with lower fees, better rates, and a deep commitment to helping our members thrive and reach their financial goals.

Trick #2: “Credit Unions Are Only for Certain Professions”

Treat: Membership is more accessible than you think!

At Logix, you are more than a member, you are part owner.  Joining is easy and anyone can open an account.  We offer new accounts for those who live in AZ, CA, MA, MD, ME, NH, NV, or VA, and meet membership eligibility requirements.  Eligibility includes employees and retirees of Logix sponsor companies, groups and associations, family members of a current member by blood, marriage, or shared residence, or you can qualify by joining the American Consumer Council or the Moorpark College Friends of the Foundation, both of which are no cost to you when you join through Logix.

No cobweb-covered doors here; just a wide-open welcome!

Trick #3: “Credit Unions Aren’t as Secure as Banks”

Treat: Your money is just as safe with us.

Your deposits are federally insured up to at least $250,000 by the National Credit Union Association (NCUA), which is equivalent to FDIC insurance for banks. Plus, Logix Federal Credit Union has proudly maintained a perfect record of positive earnings since 1937, holds a 5-Star Bauer Financial rating, and invests in advanced fraud prevention and account protection.

In other words, your money is safe from goblins, ghouls, and financial nightmares.

Trick #4: “You Can’t Access Your Money Nationwide”

Treat: Credit union members enjoy convenient nationwide access.

With Logix, you can:

  • Easily manage accounts online, or in our new mobile app
  • Deposit checks remotely
  • Pay bills from wherever you are
  • Use Zelle® for fast transfers
  • Add your card to digital wallets for tap & go™ payments
  • And much more!

🍬The Sweetest Takeaway

Don’t let outdated myths about credit unions scare you this season.  Credit unions like Logix are built to put members first, not shareholders.  With better rates, personalized service, digital convenience, and a proven record of financial strength, the benefits are all treats, no tricks.

This October, skip the tricks and treat yourself to smarter banking.  The only frightening thing is missing out on all the perks of credit union membership.

If you’re interested in joining Logix, or want to learn more about our membership benefits, we’d love to help!
