A brief stroll through a high school campus will illustrate just about everything you need to know about economics and the class system. I have mentored a 13 year-old kid named Brodie since he was about 9. He has an older sister, Leila who is 15 that I’ve known since she was 11.  After two years of high school Leila is an economics expert. She can tell you who is “rich” “middle-class” and “poor” in about 15 seconds of looking at any of the kids from her school. Leila can break down their outfit, lunch options, and even their hair styles to monetary equivalents that establish a financial rank in the high school universe

Save Money with Drought-Tolerant Landscaping

It won't come as a surprise that California is in a drought – the topic is regularly in the news and my water company frequently informs me about changes being made to help out our parched state.  Nowadays, I feel guilty when taking showers a few minutes longer than normal or after realizing that I emptied the rest of my glass of water down the sink, when I could have poured it over a houseplant.  Gone are the three days a week of watering. For now, we’re down to two days per week through October when it will then be reduced to one.

A Night Out on a Budget

Dinner and a show can hit the cost spectrum on the high end, low end or no end. Living in Los Angeles makes for a variety of meal and theater experiences. Earlier this year, we wanted to see Angela Lansbury in “Blithe Spirit.” Side note – She’s 90 years old. And, still actively acting and performing. Wow!
